Grades, SATs, etc

This is a general question that I know the "official" answer to, but I kinda wanted to know what people thought in general about the whole thing.

I know a lot of the MT colleges say they look for around an 1100 on the SATs (obviously with the change of the New SAT, they'll change their standard) and like a B average....I also am aware that for a school like Michigan, you have to pass their screening process before they invite you to audition. I do get that it varies from school to school.

But how much does someone think the grades and stuff really matters? I mean if someone passes those standards at a school like Michigan, is there any reason that they wouldn't at least be invited to audition? I know Michigan does cut their list significantly from people who send in their applications to people who actually get to audition, but are those people they don't invite more the people who don't even break 1000 on their SATs?

Thanks! It's a little nerve-racking as I go to a very academically demanding school where everyone is extremely obsessed with getting good grades and going to an Ivy League college.

BroadwayWannabe - The answer to your question varies widely from school to school. Your best bet would be to call or write to the MT admissions people (not the regular admissions office). They are very willing to give you guidance. From visits or what I've read, I think the SAT and other academics make a bigger difference at Michigan, NYU, and Miami at least. Some schools may emphasize it less, but many of them probably have a minimum they expect and that they would share with you.
