Grades throughout highschool

Hello,

In my freshman year of highschool i had mainly low Bs with my regents examinations mid Bs. In my sophomore year i improved reaching low As and a couple of As in my regents. For junior year i am hoping to get high As in everything. My question is how will colleges see this rise of grades, positive or negative? And do i have a chance in getting into selective colleges or not. Cumulative GPA is currently around 3.8(without junior year)

Obviously they will see a rise in grades as a positive as long as you keep that trend going. As for a chance of getting into selective schools will depend on many other factors (test scores, ECs, Essays, hooks) but to improve your chances take the most rigorous classes available to you.

Rising grades are better than flat or falling grades.

(Fwiw, higher SAT scores are better than lower SAT scores, more ECs are better than fewer, etc…)

Yay!!11 for the upward trend. This is always a good thing. However, I am a little confused. How do you calculate your current GPA to be a 3.8 (roughly about a A- average) if freshman year you had low B’s and sophomore year you had low A’s (What constitutes a low B? What constitutes a low A?). Does your school do numerical grades or letter grades? It would be less stressful and more consistent for you if you calculate your grades based on how grades are given at your school.
