Grades went up but GPA went down?

I'm confused. Our school year has 4 quarters in it. At the end of the 3rd quarter I checked the on line portal and looked at my transcript. My overall UW GPA was around 92.

here are my 4 quarter averages this past year:

1st quarter - 91.83
2nd quarter - 91.83
3rd quarter - 92.5
4th quarter - 94.67

the transcript has been updated to include all 4 quarters and my UW GPA is now 90.66. How did it go down with a higher 4th quarter averaged into it? Obviously i have to ask my guidance counselor but i'm freaking out. i'm half a point away from an A to a B. I can't imagine there would be a mistake, but i don't know why it would go down.

If the quarter averages you quoted above only included those quarters, and not the previous year’s GPA, then this year’s GPA was combined with last year’s (and last year’s was lower), then your Overall GPA could well be lower.

But they certainly could have made a mistake, so be sure to follow up on the issue with your GC or registrar soon.
