Grades

How hard is it to get really good grades in the honors program at UW? Is it more competitive than the regular L&S? Do they rank students at UW?

The average grading at UW is around 3.1+ which seems more than fair. Some depts grade harder than others. Varies more by major than anything else.

man, the average acceptance into the business program is a 3.5 up until junior year and 3.1 for the entire school. I wish they let some people in automatically into the business program. If they let people into the program as freshmen and I had gotten into the business school i might have thought about going to wisconsin. :( I have a month to make a choice. :(

What about the honors program? What is the average GPA? Is it more competitive?

No data. Everything known on grades.

There are different types of honors classification. A few courses are reserved for honors students only, and these might be more rigorous simply because classmates will be focused on academics.

More common, though, are regular courses that have the option for honors work - you attend a normal class, get graded in the usual ways, but also complete an additional project(s) to fulfill the honors requirements. It is not more difficult to earn high grades in these classes than in non-honors classes because (in all cases I've seen) the grades are only based on the regular classwork, not on the additional honors projects. In my experience honors students are required to complete the additional honors assignments but are not graded on them.
