I am sorry of asking this question because i am sure it has been answered, but does Stanford look at grades from 9th or only from 10th to 12th?

Only 10 and 11th, although you have to submit freshman grades.

I know that Stanford recalculates GPA on an unweighted 4.0 scale. Do they take +'s and -'s into account? For example, is an A- 3.67 or 4.0?

nobody knows what goes on in that mysterious Stanford admissions office

(they don't tell you how THEY calculate GPA)

They only look at 10-12 grades, but your class rank depends on your freshmen grades, so they still count.

Do you have to send in mid year reports of 12th year grades? Because lurkingirl said that they only look at 10th and 11th year grades.

well, there's a mid-year report. im assuming it's handled the same way as other schools...decisions are made based on 10, 11...and 12th grade marks are used in order to finalize the decision. so...4.0 10, 11 --> 3.8 12 probably wont matter, but 4.0 --> 2.0 probably (just a guess ;)) will.

"Because lurkingirl said that they only look at 10th and 11th year grades."

Sorry...I didn't mean it that way. I meant that they were not supposed to look at Freshman grades, but I think most if not all schools look at senior year grades when you apply RD. But, then again, I am NO Expert:)

So do they take out all the classes you took as a freshman and recaculate the average or something?

my school doesn't rank btw

They calculate GPA for 10,11,12 grades, academic classes only (no PE, art, etc.)

by academic classes, does technology count? or is it just math, science, english, social studies and foreign languages

I believe that all AP courses count as academic courses, even AP Studio Art and Music Theory. As for technology, do you mean computer science? That is an academic elective, which counts as an academic course.

I mean stuff like technical drawing and computer engineering, which is listed under the Technology section of my transcript.

I doubt that anyone on this forum can answer that with any degree of certainty. I guess you could call or e-mail the office and ask, if you really want to know...

If you apply ea to stanford, do they look at senior year grades (or mid year report)? Or just 10 and 11 year grades?

they wont have ur midyears in time for the decision - most go out in jan/feb and the stanford decision is out by mid december.

if your 10/11 are VERY strong (and it's your top choice), apply early!

Here are my chances: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=32686
