Grades

My high school did grades based on a 100-point scale, so I'm not totally sure how letter grades are calculated at Cornell...is it something like 90-100 = A, 80-89 = B, etc., or does it differ by professor?

Also, how will we get our grades for the semester? Online, transcripts in the mail, e-mail?

Thanks!

From what I hear, most courses are graded with a curve, so it’s very difficult to pinpoint an exact cut-off structure. For example, I have 89-91 percentage grades in all my classes, but in some of my classes that’s an A+, while in others it’s barely scraping an A-. I think we’ll be able to check our grades on studentcenter once they’re done.

Thanks, Aseyelum! I guess I’ll just wait til they’re on the studentcenter.

Although, if anyone knows how Psych 1101 is curved (if at all), I’d like to know… x]

the grading for psych 101 should be posted on the course website. it’s not curved at all. it’s solely based on exam scores and extra credit

“Grading is done on an absolute scale. There is no curve AND THE SCORING MACHINE DOES NOT MAKE ERRORS. Prelims 1 and 2 count 30% each, the final counts 40%. To determine your final grade: 1) divide your raw score for prelim 1 by 44 and multiply by 30%; 2) divide your raw score for prelim 2 by 47 and multiply by 30%; 3) divide your raw score for the final exam by 95 and multiply by 40%; 4) Add the results of step 1, 2 and 3 and multiply by 100. Do not round off at any time for any calculation! To be absolutely fair to all students, there will be absolutely no grade changes from the formula–even 1/1000 of a point. Don’t even bother to ask; there will be no exceptions and no replies. Final Course grades will be posted before Christmas. Happy Holidays!!”

Yeah…I followed that procedure and I got an 89 haha. I guess I was hoping that it might somehow translate into an A- instead of a B+…I did do SUSAN and my TA told me that it counts the same as attendance, but attendance doesn’t seem to count at all here! lol.

Anyway, it’s not a big deal. I should be focusing on my other finals right now =P

[EDIT]

Actually, I just went back and read the general info portion of the psych website and got my answers. I should have done that in the beginning, lol.
