Daughter recently accepted to Babson class of 2026. I hear how rigorous the academics are. Is the grading traditional or on some type of curve based on how class performs??
I would describe Babson as rigorous, but not overly. If she likes business, she will find the grading to be very appropriate. Teachers have the freedom to offer a curve or not. If she is less financial, the math-oriented classes will be tougher. Believe that would be the case with any UG biz program. It is a great education with strong preparation for business.
The grading is traditional. In its efforts to simulate real world business situations, Babson does a lot of group projects. I think the hardest thing to get used to is getting a grade in some situations, based on the results of what the team has accomplished rather than your own individual effort.
Frankly the last thing I’d worry about at Babson is grades - unless you have some very specific reason. The educational experience is so unique and so productive that I would take it for what it is. If you have very specific concerns, contact an Admissions Officer. S/he will put you in contact with someone who can address your concern and/or with students who can offer their perspective.
My daughter was able to successfully navigate through her first year in the 3.6-3.8 GPA range (forgot exact GPA). Just like in high school though, it depends on the how much time is put in. Naturally students have stronger affinity to certain classes and professors which can help. Overall though, it’s fair. No grade inflation and no intentions to issue lower grades. Good luck!
