grading in large intro courses

I was wondering if anyone who already took the classes below could tell me what the numerical value for an A turned out to be for the final grade so I can get an idea

biological sciences 110A stubbs/singleton
econ 100 buckles
chem 102a phillips

also I am in calc 155b and I was told the class average will be a B. what is typically the class average for first year calc courses, or the average for the specific course I am in if anyone knows?

Econ 100 is VERY hard. A&S only allows you to use 18 hours of AP credit, and because I had more than 18 hours and wanted to be an Econ major, I thought I would retake Econ for an easy A. Wrong. I ended up with a C+. Definitely the hardest class I've taken so far. And I would say the average is either a C/C+.

Yeah, I took econ in high school and I agree that it is harder than expected, especially the tests. Do you know what an A in this class is though? I am very annoyed that I did not get a clear grading scale in any of my classes. I know a 90 or above is an A or A-, but does any current or past student who is taking/has taken a class I listed above know what an A is?

S did a double major in econ and math. He had Vrooman for the first course and did exceptionally well - tied for highest grade in the class on the first exam as a freshman. He then had Buckles the next semester and I'm pretty sure ended up with a B+. I think he had Buckles again in a seminar and also found him to be a tough grader in that course. However, he had a great deal of respect for him as a teacher and valued the experience when it was all said and done.

BSCI 110A Stubbs/Singleton
For my year, the avg of the four first exams was 66. I'm not sure what the cutoff was for an A, but I had a 94 and ended up with an A. I would guess the cutoff was around a 90-91.

CHEM 102A
I didn't have Phillips (I had Wright), but seeing as the tests are 80% common material, I would guess the final grades aren't all that different. I had an 89 after the final and ended up with an A-. Not sure what the cutoff for an A was.

As for calc, when I took it the average seemed to be around a B- or C+.

While this might not apply to every class, I have found that for all the A&S classes I have taken so far, the cut off for an A has been above a 92/93.

It's been a few years since I had intro Econ with Buckles. I got an A with a 93. I believe that's the cutoff. Perhaps he's changed it since then, but that's pretty standard across the school.

those some of the hardest freshmen classes at vanderbilt. stubbs/singleton, average on tests are around a 60 and the final last year was a 47 or so, the B+/A- cut off is 81/82 - they tell you the curve. chem is similar to biology. math 155b can be very difficult depending on your teacher. i heard buckles is incredibly hard. good luck
