Grading Scales and Recalculated GPA

Hi everyone, I'm an international student interested in applying EA to GT this fall.

Although my science and math grades are the best in my class, my GPA is dragged down by a few humanities grades in the low 90s and 80s.

My high school does not have the typical A = 90 = 4.0 grading scale, it is tougher:

93-100 = A = 4.0
85-92 = B = 3.0
75-84 = C = 2.0

When my GPA is recalculated, will grades of 90-92 be As or Bs?

Believe it or not, this makes a HUGE difference on my GT GPA... And it would seem rather unfair that students with similar/the same grades could potentially apply with a much higher GPA just because their HS had an easier grading scale.

GT no longer recalculates GPA. They take what your school sends. I assume that your school will send the grading scale with your transcript and they will take that into consideration.

Does a 3.84 weighted GPA ( 3.5 unweighted ) with 7 AP level courses and 2330 sat score stand any chance? Decent extra curricular activities in school. By senior year end it will be 10 APs

It’s so hard to tell what with them going to the common app and the fact they are no longer refiguring the GPA’s. I guess what I would do is refigure the GPA the way they used to and that will tell you if it’s in the range of the kids who got in this year. The high SAT will help and also if those AP’s scores are 4’s and 5’s.

@parent62, I had a 3.4 unweighted and 2300 and I got in this year. Your SAT and course load are perfect, but I don’t know how your GPA will factor in for next year when the applicant pool grows from the Common App

im not sure the common app is going to make the applicant pool so competitive that someone with 10 ap’s, 3.84 weighted (i doubt gt will look at unweighted because they said that they want to see your gpa in the context of your school), and a 2330 won’t get in. i’d say your chances are high and i’m pretty sure the 2330 will be higher than the 75th percentile.
