Grading System

What is the grading system at WashU? I was under the impression that it has a +/- system, but the catalogue seems to indicate otherwise.

it is +/- system. if you look under the art school in the course catalogue, they have the actual +/- grading scale listed

thanks (10 char)

the grading system actually varies by school. The engineering school assigns +/-'s, but an A+ A A- are all waited the same in the GPA. I believe the remaining schools have a standard +/- system.

what would be an A+ in arts and science?

A+ and A in ArtSci is 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3, B- is 2.7 etc. etc.

^^^ oh wow thank you that is really nice to know cause I am planning on law school and was kinda worried about the idea that only a 97+ would be a 4.0.

Is an A- 93 and below?

usually, 100-97 is A+; 96-94 is A; 93-90 A-, etc

so if i need to keep a 3.8 for a program, that means 93 or above on all classes @__@

i don't want to be scared, but how many ppl can keep a 3.8 GPA? how much do they sacrifice (or is it more a matter of good study habits?)

no....As and A pluses are weighted the same

some classes do not go explicitly by the cutoffs...like for orgo go to :
http://www.chemistry.wustl.edu/~courses/spring_07/252_07.htm
and look at the grade cutoffs for the midterms.

and for many of the classes, some teachers assign +/- based on trend, participations, etc

i know that As and A+s are weighted the same. but i should have said 94 or above...(b/c according to kolli, 94-97 = A, 97-100=A+) :/

and whoa it's so nice they publish the old exams! do most science teachers do this??

i dont know if every techer post them online

most bio and chem lectures are video taped, though

Are ppl. really strict with not giving their pw to check out the video lectures?

If you go the first day of class, the teachers will tell you the password for the online videos (it's also the password used to check grades via the dept. website). At least this was the case for chem 111/112 and chem 151/152. Bio 2960 was not videotaped.
