That applies to everyone. The only people I know with 4.0+ GPA's are engineers and AEM majors.

the only people i know with 4.0+ GPAs are ILR majors and engineers...

The only people I know with 4.0+ are Comm and HD majors.

At least in ILR, it's extremely rare to find someone with over a 4.0. A 3.90 last year was top 10 of the 237-student class, and I think there's a considerable difference between at 3.90 and a 4.00+. My guess is that to get a 4.00+ it'd mostly be a matter of strategically picking the right classes.

To add my own anecdote, the only person I knew had over a 4.12 was a bio major...

This is a faint memory, but doesn't the Sun publish a list of individuals in the "4.0 Club" every semester or something like this? I think these are individuals who are both varsity athletes as well as having a semester GPA above 4.0.

There tends to be a fair number of engineers on the list. Typically they are on the crew team or the equestrian team and also happen to be national champions. It's a bit humbling. I always considered myself reasonably intelligent, but I quickly learned I was pretty average at Cornell.

Yes, there are a ridiculous number of very smart people at Cornell. If you think about it, there are more people at Cornell with over a 1500 SAT than the entire class of a school like Dartmouth or Princeton.

When I was a senior I TAed ILRST211 -- multivariate regression. They have since done away with the course, which I think is unfortunate, because it was a good course. But that's not the story:

The students in the course were a mixed bag -- some couldn't lift a pencil and work out a stats problem to save their life. Others had no problem spending an hour a week on the course and getting an A. But the best student I had in the class by far was Mitch Belisle. He was also a really nice guy.

Mitch coincidentally was named the NCAA Lacrosse Defenseman of the Year last year. He was an absolute beast on the field.

By the way, Cornell v. Princeton Lacrosse is this Saturday at 4PM. Nationally televised on ESPNU.

^^ wow. those are some extremely smart people. wow.

I don't think it is prudent to advise people to take the MATH 223 and 224 sequence, unless they like rigorous introduction to proof based math and stuff like that. The regular math sequences suffice for the typical science/engineering student, methinks.
