grading system?

I keep seeing GPA this GPA that UW this UW that.
My school doesn't have unweighted or weighted GPA, and our grading system is completely different to american public school standards. it's a private school, but still.

sometimes i think it's weird that people complain about not getting a 4.0 because in my school a 4.0 is a common grade, but not all of the "smart" people have it (we don't have + or - so i think that's part of it, either you get a 4.0 or 3.0 depending on one percent)
and i hate it when people are like 4.44 weighted XD we can't even go beyond 4.0

so how does your school grade? what's an A? what's an B-?

Is it just me or are similar threads to this posted monthly?

it’s nature, everything recycles somehow :P

Yeah, I would agree. It pops up all the time.

I wish people would generally just use the search engine.

I understand if there was a thread six months ago, alright make a new one, but when it’s so common, c’mon.

Well, I will answer your questions. People can type replies, but can’t answer your questions? Pfft. N00bs.

An A is the highest you can go. An A = a 4.0. Generally, it is a 90-100%, a B is a 3.0 and that is normally an 80-89%, etc.

Weighted GPA is when you take honors, AP, or Dual enrollment classes. Since they are harder, many schools reward an extra .5 to 1.0 added to the GPA earned. This helps with class rank, so those who have challenged themselves are still in the top of their class.

… This thread seems to appear every month or so and it always angers see to see people’s fixation with grades. Grades are neither reliable valid nor objective. Grades promote a culture of education based on the accmuluation of A’s rather than intellectual exploration.

…Please, no.

I agree completely.

^ I also completely agree.

Glad to see the good people of CC agree with me! haha I wrote a paper on the abolition of grades as an independent study project this year, this caused my teacher, the headaster and the superintendant to call me “a psychopath”. Ironically I got an A for the project.

Fixed and yes.

they were just asking a question guys. obviously they are a new member so they wouldn’t see the past threads. reeeeelax geesh

I have no problem answering your question.

All schools calculate GPAs differently. Some give extra points to advanced classes but some don’t and then the extra points vary. Some will include every class the student has taken but others will only use core classes. Some will compute grades for high school classes taken in middle school while others will only acknowlege that the class was passed.

At my school, high school classes taken in middle school are only noted as pass/fail on transcripts.

No fine arts class is counted for GPA - dance, drill team, choir, band, theater.

Other classes not counted in the GPA - PE, athletics, newspaper, yearbook, school website, any aids or assistants (labs, technology, teacher).

Pre-AP (honors), AP, and DC (dual college credit) courses are given an extra 1.0. That’s the weighted GPA, so: 100 = 5.0, 99 = 4.9, 98 = 4.8…, 89 = 3.9… (you can’t get over 100 even if you make a 125 on the final)

All “regular” classes are calculated on an unweighted 4.0 scale: 100 = 4.0, 99 = 3.9, 98 = 3.8…

For new student transfers: A+ = 100-98, A = 97-95, A- = 94-92, B+ = 91-88

Although recycled threads do irritate me, I somewhat understand as I find the CC search engine almost useless. I’m really not very tech savvy but a lot of the time when I use CC search I cannot find threads I am certain exist so I googe “college confidential x” in order to find what I’m looking for. It’s a shame there’s no google custom search on this site.

Thank you. I didn’t want to over exagerate at all, but I think you’re still correct.
