Grading Systems & UC Application

I noticed the UC application asks for the grading system of your high school, but I have an issue here:

My school decided THIS YEAR to switch from "A B C D F" to a percent grading system, yet the application only allows for one grading system method.

My school has final grades as well as marking period grades. Should I put both final and marking period grades?

Also, would a Jersey school have a "UC-approved" honors course?

Finally, for a dropped course, would one report the grades as a whole? (ex: say the first two marking periods were one course in math then the next two were another level?)

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The UCs use grades only through junior year to determine admission. If through junior year your school used A-F grading system and you are applying as a senior now, then put that letter grading system as the one for your school. In other words your designated system should conform with the one you use on the application when listing courses and grades through junior year. You could then note in your essay or any space on the application allowed for providing additional information that your grading system has changed to a percentage system for senior year.

The application wants grades from the end of each semester, not any grades from the middle of a semester.

The UCs do not have an approval process for any out-of-state (OOS) honors courses. In calculating GPA for OOS applicants, the UCs give the extra honors credit only to AP or IB courses.

I do not understand the dropped course question but courses to be supplied are any in which you received a final semester grade and you report those courses for which you have final semester grades.

Thank you very much!

Forgot to also ask: would Pre-calc be “Algebra II/Trigonometry” or “Advanced Mathematics”?

Also, would I still put down “HL” for honors courses or “NH”?

Precalc is beyond Alg II/Trig, so don’t check that box.

The UCs are mighty expensive for OOS, and only a few of its programs are worth it, IMO. To me, the same price buys a better value at a private college.

Edited to add: your 3.3 gpa (and top third ranking) and 1870/30 has no chance at Berkeley & UCLA. Don’t waste the app fee.

Thanks, bluebayou. I always appreciate honesty.

I found out today on my transcript that apparently my guidance counselor misreported my rank and GPA…smh. It’s actually top 25%, 3.458 UW/3.805 W…still not worth it?

Also: new ACT score was a 32.
