grading systems when choosing possible undergrad college

if thinking about colleges/undergrad programs with a goal to apply to medical schools, how important could a grading system of the undergrad school be? i've noticed some colleges are grading A- as 3.6 vs other schools grading any A as 4.0. Knowing how important a high undergrad gpa is when applying to med school, couldn't a grading system possibly cause a problem? Hypothetical student gets all A-'s at college A and comes out with a gpa 3.6 vs gets all A-s at college B and comes out with gpa of 4.0.... wouldnt that knock out chances at some med schools??

yes! you're a genius! you have broken the code of med school admissions....

...except not...

AMCAS standardizes your GPA

thank you, i'll check that out. My son had asked if he should think about that when beginning his college search and i thought this board would know the answer. have a nice day!

You must send in transcripts to amcas which then creates your "amcas transcript". In this transcript any A+,A is 4.0, A- is 3.7, and so on. So, in other words, going to Cornell would not be advantageous.
