Graduate Assistantship

I had thought I was leaving behind all the bureacracy and red tape, of my old school, for my new graduate school.
Well, I was wrong.
I waited and waited, but today I finally got my GA rejection letter in the mail.
I was expecting it, since I had already know it was awarded to "3" others.
In fact, the website still shows "2" available graduate assistantships, and never mentioned there were 3, plus, why hasn't anyone updated the website?
I had actually found out I didn't get it from another department I had applied to. At least that person was kind enough to tell me "all the departments decide" within 1 week after the application deadline. My deadline was June 15th.
I thought there would be a better chance in my home department, since its only a master's program and there are no PhD candidates. Well, I was wrong.

Always going to be red tape. I almsot left my M.A program bcause of this situation but figured its likely all the same for M.A students. I would jsut advise you to keep sending emails and keep on peoples asses, they will get sick of you and jsut give you something.

I was denied 2 GA and emailed everyone for days and eventually have gotten 2 GA to cover my expenses.

I tried that.
The two most common emails were: "already filled" or "not offering". My new school has a department that handles GA and they gave me the list of available GA's and the also gave me a list of departmental contacts.
Only 2 other departments referred my resume to other departments that may have had graduate assistantships.

Yea, it sometimes sucks as an M.A student. I wasnt ready to commit to a Ph.D even though I could have gotten better funding and decided I would do my M.A first at a closer Uni before applying all over for my Ph.D. Its one of the draw backs of taking the M.A first route.
