Graduate Engineering after UB

I read in one of UB's brochures that they have engineering students that graduate from UB and go on to schools like MIT, Stanford, and Cornell for graduate engineering.

I want to know how realistic is this, and what will it take from the student to get accepted into one of these 'elite' schools after UB.

I don’t doubt it. It depends on the student.

There are certainty students that get into top schools each year. A significant part of getting into a great grad school is doing research and outside activities. UB is a Research I university, which for you means there are many research opportunities. In engineering, the school you go to for undergrad doesn’t mean all that much. You are going to learn the same principles pretty much no matter where you go. Additionally, there are many active engineering clubs which will potentially boost your resume.

As part of the robotics club I know of 2 former members going for their PhD’s at Carnegie Melon (and a third who passed on another offer) and 1 member at Cornell. So essentially it matters more on what you do than where you go.

There’s plenty. I know of many people that have graduated in past years or are graduating this year and will be going to top universities. They were students that excelled at UB.

I think the amount of research that you can participate as an undergrad definitely helps. If you do well at UB, no doubt you can get into a great grad school.
