Graduate Housing&Moving

Hello, I recently got accepted to Clemson.=) Then I was checking on campus housing, there are too many options, I haven't decide which to choose yet...and I'm from Oklahoma, it seems that it's better to fly to Clemson instead of driving...but then I was worried how to move all my stuff to Clemson(use ups?moving company?or mail from the postoffice?) do anybody had similar experience? And btw, how's the social life at Clemson, I don't know anybody there...=)

On-campus housing for graduate students is available as space permits (priority goes to undergraduates). Graduate students live in two-person apartments in Thornhill Village. However, you can also ask to be placed somewhere else, but again that is based on whether space is available. You should call Darlene Mahaffey for information on housing at 964-656-4663 or email her at Darlene@clemson.edu

My parents drove and dropped me off from Boston so sorry I can’t help you out with how to move your stuff. Seems like maybe shipping it is the way to go? and then maybe check in an extra bag or two if it’s not too expensive.

Social life at Clemson is fantastic. On the Princeton Review ratings, we got a perfect 99/99 and were ranked as the 10th best for campus life. We also received a 2nd place ranking in the category for happiest students. Personally, I’m very happy here (sometimes stressed with all the work) but it’s been a great college experience so far.

Have you thought about living off campus?

For Pierre, thanks for your reply, that helped a lot…

For Mitch, hmmm, I thought about it once, as I said I don’t know anybody there, I feel safer to live on campus at least one year to get a feel of my new school life first…plus I’ve been live on campus for all my (undergraduate)life…I guess, I’m getting used to depending on eating in cafeteria and all kinds of on campus activities…but I might think about live off campus one day…lol…

To the OP, what are you going to study at Clemson grad school?

Glad to hear grad students do have on campus housing options.

Where are you planning to fly in to get to Clemson?

Good luck on your studies and congratulations on your acceptance to Clemson!

if you are thinking about living off-campus, a couple of weeks ago, our campus newspaper had a chart comparing all of the off-campus options and I typed it up for someone I know. If you want, I can email that to you, just let me know.

For Montegut, I’m math major…since I’ll be there fall 2010, it’s still few month from now…I haven’t check the flight info yet…and actually earlier today, I heard that one of my friend is transfering next sememster as well,so we might just drive to Clemson together…

For pierre, yeah, sure, please email me the chart comparing. Thank you so much!I’m really appreciate =)

Where are you coming from, OP? And where is your friend transferring from?

If you don’t mind my asking, I saw another thread about someone entering a masters with no funding.

Were you able to get any financial aid from Clemson for pursuing your masters?

If not, what does it cost per year for graduate school at Clemson?

purplecomb, what’s your email address? (you can send me that in a private message if you want)

I would be a little weary of the off-campus housing guide published. While it has a lot of great options, most of the apartments advertised are large complexes (which are usually further from campus). There are a few good options closer to campus that may appeal to you more if you wish to be close to the cafeteria, classes, etc. I’m just finishing up my math minor now, and it’s only a ~15 min walk for me to class from my apartment.

What are you focusing on for your graduate studies? I have a friend here working on a PhD with a focus in stochastic math.

Hey Mitch, where are you currently living off campus? I got placed in Thornhill Village (got shafted at the It’s Your Choice thing) and am exploring living off-campus next year.

For Montegut, I’m actually entering a PhD program, although I’m still senior in undergraduate right now, I do recieve a teaching assistantship from Clemson, it pretty much covered everything. You might see me teaching next sememster, lol, if I do make it to Clemson eventually.(Probably, I’ll come next sememster, but my advisor suggest me take some time to think again about my decision, talk to some students there to make sure if I really wants to be there.) well, my friend is not transfer to Clemson though, I think she’s transfer to some college nearby.since we both would head to the same direction, we just thought it’s nice to travel together, and she can just drop me there…

For Pierre, thanks, I got the email. I might still go with on campus housing first, since I won’t have a car right away…I’ll think about this option most likely at least after a sememster…

And For Mitch, can you tell me more info about your apartment? And, yes,I’m also go for Phd in math, who’s ur friend?

Thank you again, guys, you guys are so helpful

Hey, I just wanted to introduce myself, because I also got into the PhD math program at Clemson and I will must likely be going there next year. I am also unsure about housing next year, but I guess I will figure that out later this Spring. Anyway, I look forward to meeting you if you come to Clemson.

Hey,Woskoffk, that’s awesome, I was worrying about have no friends there for the first week, and eating alone in the conner in cafeteria. I’m looking forward to meeting you as well. Do you have facebook or any contact info…we should keep update.

There are a few apartment complexes near campus. They include OakCrest, Pine St., South Ridge, Sunset Courts, Zia, and others. If you search google, you should be able to find the management companies for these properties. Advantage Property Management has many of these apartments.
