Graduate in 3 years? + UM vs UIUC

rjkofnovi, you obviouly is an interesting person, I hope you are a child too. Which firm I work for is irrelevant. I have said both are great schools, and I am giving a 17 year old a parent, alumni, and financial perspective. You don’t have to like it.

Bearsgarden, to some families, $110k is a drop in the bucket. Some families make this kind of money in dividends or bonuses annually. In such circles, a Michigan degree will be mor socially attractive, as will it be among certain firms, should Pat1120 wish to work for such firms. Assuming the above applies to Par1120, Michigan makes better sense. But in most cases, I agree with you, Michigan is not $110k better than Michigan.

“I have said both are great schools.”

You said, “When we recruit, other executives see Michigan and joke about the sports, that’s about it.”

That doesn’t sound like the positive comments one would make of a “great school” like Michigan. Furthermore, where you work is relevent. As a non native born American, you should be the first to realize how important prestige is in the world of finance. That first job offer will often set you up for your career. Certain top firms are not going to recruit at UIUC, but they will at Michigan.

Yes I sensed that. I am just more used to argue about the steep price diff between an ivy+Stanford +mit+best LACs and a state flagship, and quite frankly I am having that discussion at home for my DC who is choosing between an elite boarding school in New England and a local public high that is ranked top 50 in the newly pressed Top High school list.

Regardless of a family’s wealth, I believe a major job of good parenting is to teach the kids the financial aspect of major decisions. And I think the OP is doing this with the dad.

rjkofnovi, calm down. good luck with your professional life.

Alexandre, Rjkofnovi, and Bearsgarden, thank you again for all of the help. But let’s not get too feisty here :p… I appreciate all of the opinions and I will take it all in consideration when I make my decision.
