I'm currently an undergrad at UT Austin graduating in May in chemical engineering. I am considering GA Tech to get my Masters. I just wanted some insight on how graduate life is at GA Tech. Where do graduate students typically live (I'd prefer to live on campus or near campus so I won't have to bring a car)? Grocery shopping? Safety around campus?

Grad students typically either live in the Graduate Living Center or in an apartment complex/neighborhood close by such as Home Park, Berkeley Park, Tenside Apts, etc. There are plenty of places close by to choose from which you won’t need a car for. And if you want to live further away, MARTA is an option since the Tech Trolly stops at the midtown station during the week.

As for groceries, Tech offers grocery shuttles on the weekend to Atlantic Station while the Tech Trolly’s route stops near the Publix in midtown during the week. Walmart also just announced plans to put in its smallest store ever in Tech Square. I’m not sure what kind of stuff they’ll offer with it only being 2500 sq. ft., but you should be able to get essentials there.

And with safety, I would say Tech is pretty safe comparatively. It’s in a big city which is why people worry, but violent crime is uncommon on campus and the surrounding areas aren’t too bad either. Obviously, it depends on who you ask, but I’ve never had any problems where I live in Home Park.
