Hey guys! I’m currently a first year majoring in pharmsci at UCI, but I want to someday get a PhD in environmental sciences at Stanford. My only problem is that I plan to go to grad school to get a Pharm D first, and then after 3 years of working, I would like to continue studying for a masters in environmental science and then maybe a doctoral degree. The problem is that I don’t plan on majoring in environmental sciences at UCI, only minor since my schedule is really tight. I plan to stay a 5th year to finish my minor in environmental sciences, but I’m worried that won’t be able to major in environmental sciences at graduate school of my choice if only I’m able to get masters/doctoral degree only if environmental sciences is my major. Is majoring in the field required? Is getting into Stanford for environmental sciences difficult?
Getting into Stanford for any grad program is difficult.
And quite frankly, your plan doesn’t make a whole lotta sense. Stanford PhD’s are research all-the-time. Your PharmD + working as a pharmacist will be a nice soft, but almost meaningless to applying to a doctoral program. Any undergrad with direct research experience will be ahead of you on the admit list.
And you’d be close to 30 by the time you apply? Sorry, not a good plan.
