Graduate School Prospects for Undergraduate BU Students

Does anyone know if BU undergrads go off to prestigious graduate schools?

x2 i also want to know this

yes (10 chars).

How about within the university? Is it easier for BU students to get into a BU grad school?

not usually. I don’t think they reserve spots or anything. If you’re a strong applicant you’re a strong applicant.

what about top 10 schools?

theman: not sure about other grad schools but this year’s med school has about 50/180 students from BU (also partly because of its many early acceptance programs)

jnd: my friend graduated BU with me and is now at harvard medical school. was choosing between that and johns hopkins but harvard gave better financial aid. another friend of mine went to BU for biomedical eng and is now at grad school at cornell.

-where you go to undergrad doesn’t mean jack when you’re applying to grad school. the only difference it makes is obviously that a harvard grad looks better on paper than someone from county college. however, you still have to work to get a good gpa and do ECs and what-not no matter where you go from undergrad.

Applying to grad school, here’s a simple but not necessarily generalizable point: law school admissions are about numbers. You need to score very high to get into a top ranked law school. That score is then connected to your gpa. The rest doesn’t matter much. More kids from Yale get in because they score higher on the LSAT. If you score high, you will too. If you can score high, your grades will be fine at BU or elsewhere.

I have no idea how it works for say an anthropology graduate program.

Hmmm… well I am a freshman now in the BME program. I would love to get into the BU BME grad school (just as a safety) since I feel that my grades may be lacking from what I have seen so far. I thought it would be easier to get into the BU grad program as a BU student previously, but I guess not =/.

Hey I just stumbled onto this thread, so not sure if a lot of people are still curious about it. But anyway, I have gotten into Cornell, Brown, and Columbia… I think BU BME department is pretty well regarded, in terms of its faculty members and academic rigor.
