Graduate School Recruitment and Open House Invitation

HI,

I really need help or feedback on this pleaseeeee!

So, my friend and I both applied to graduate program and he told me the school invited him to an open house invitation after he got an acceptance letter. On the other hand, I did not receive any acceptance/rejection letter from them, nor the invitation to their open house. Does this mean I got rejected from this school??

Thank you so much for your help!

It depends. If you applied to a master’s program, it may mean that you were rejected and the letter hasn’t gotten to you yet. If you applied to a PhD program, it may mean that you are on the waitlist in case someone turns down the offer, or it may mean you were rejected.

Really, there’s no way of knowing, so the best thing to do is sit tight and wait.

Thank you juillet for your words!!! I really appreciate it! Sigh… I’m so nervous…

Most schools that I was rejected from let me know fairly soon. I had a few where I was waitlisted, and their responses varied. Some let me know quickly, others didn’t let me know until well after their visiting weekend (one was a month after the deadline of every other school).

Dear RacinReaver,

Were there any cases where you or people you may know got accepted without the invitation to their visiting weekend???

It all depends on if the school admits before or after having you visit. If it’s before, then, yeah, if enough people choose not to attend they’ll take people off the wait list (and likely schedule a visit for you ASAP). If they admit after visiting, then it’s probably a bit less likely.
