go to an alright college, ace everything, and then go top tier graduate school?
or
go to a pretty high up college, have a much lower gpa, and then possibly getting a job/go to graduate school?

To get into grad school, you usually need a good to excellent gpa. It can be overlooked a bit to quite a bit, if you have good research.

How you do predict that you will ace everything or just get much lower at ‘higher up’ college? That’s assuming a lot. I really depends on what school you are talking about. Some top schools are know for tough grading and some known for grade inflation. At state schools, the competition at the top should be just as fierce.

@brownparent the higher ranking college mentioned is notorious for having difficult classes with gpa averaging in the low 3s and high 2s, whereas the other school I mentioned everyone who shows motivation in learning earn high 3s to 4.

I didn’t know we were playing a guessing game. It comes down to how well prepared you will be, how much research you will get, what field you are looking at. Some grad school fields will weight your college gpa depending on the undergraduate institution. Top grad schools in Computer Science do that.
