Is there something abrewing at NYU? If so, students from the undergraduate schools, professional schools, graduate schools, and faculty members should keep the board updated.

yes something is brewing, a strike is about to start...a month and a half ago

Well, can't we get some sort of perspective from the inside on this board?

they're greedy bastards, and now there screwed, and strikes just about done.

Yes, the strike has been a ridiculous waste of time and a horrible disruption to many. The vast majority of students (and... I would dare say... the majority of faculty members) are opposed to it, and hopefully it will soon be dead and buried once and for all. You can read (very biased) coverage of the strike at http://www.nyunews.com

Who is this "very biased" towards or for?

The Washington Square News is the daily student-run newspaper at NYU. In all of their many editorials and coverage, they like to take the stance that their views are representative of the student population. However, their knee-jerk method, day after day after day, has been to present the union and the strike (as well as everybody and everything associated with them) in the best possible light, promoting their cause, and calling for the administration to back down, even while this is diametrically opposed to the view of the majority of the student body. Their bias, then, is pro-strike literally, it seems, no matter what the consequences.

it's just another case of the "loud minority" we see it all the time coming from the right such as what happened with schiavo, and other that christian/moral bs. Even though a majority disagree with it, the people that agree with it are much more vocal about it, so its what gets reported.

At NYU, those in favor of the strike, while in the slight (or not-so-slight depending on who you ask) minority, are very vocal and adoment about it; whereas those who oppose the strike really don't give a crap.

You really can't blame WSN, they are bias as heck, but that's because only the ultra left are vocal about the issues.

On the NYU wqebsite the President writes why he is against it. Any grad`student not back at work, pronto, will lose their TA job, but not their scholarship or right to continue studying. It does not seem like sauch a bad deal to me to get totally free tuition, plus $19,000 or whatever the stipend is, for teaching some courses. But I am not there so I don't have full knowledge of what is going on.
