Graduated, short on prospects

I graduated in August 2009 with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. GPA's were overall 3.389, Majors 3.7, past 60 credits 3.9 and I was top in all my upper accounting classes.

I've been having difficulty finding any jobs. I am currently working a temp job and was previously working another temp job which I left because there was no opportunity there. Getting paid 14 now, was 12 at the other place. These were the only two job offers I had. First one I got a call and offered, the second was the only call back I received after nearly a THOUSAND job applications that I sent out through e-mail, job websites, and comany websites.

I know people always say network, network, network. I have joined several organizations and have attended networking/career events but it don't seem like people are so interested in networking with me unless I'm either a working professional already or have something else going on for me. I also moved around a lot growing up which may seem like it would help with networking since I would have the chance to meet many people, but what it actually ended up doing was just make it so that I never really had any strong relationships. Also don't have any family network or family or family friend's network. So networking with pre-existing relationships is not an option.

I would really love to work at a Accounting firm but that don't seem so likely now. I would like to work for the finance department too but it seems like that's no so likely neither. Is there anything that I can do? I would be willing to relocate but where I live now is New Jersey and really should be the best place to live in the country for jobs like this. I have access to jobs in New Jersey, New York City and Philly (I have mostly applied to positions in Jersey and NYC).

Is my situation normal, working for 12, 14 an hour and having no medical insurance? I know many people who graduated who seemed to not really care much about school, cheated on all the tests, who now have good jobs. I know one girl who had all the exams and answers to them on her phone and just cheated on them and never studied who got a internship and job offer at PWC.
