Graduates of Champlain--How's Your Career Going?

I’m a parent of a prospective. DS is interested in game art. When he gets to Champlain, he may decide on another discipline. Could a graduate of Champlain, whether in game art or not, tell me about their experience upon graduation?

Thank you!

Hi @Dustyfeathers‌! I don’t know how many graduates are on here that would see it (other than myself!), so I shared your question with alumni that I know to get their feedback. Here’s a response from my friend Ryan Davis, who is a graduate from a few years ago. I’ll try to see if I can find other alumni to share their experience here!

“2008 Graduate - Information Security and Computer Networking Major - I can honestly say Champlain set me up very well for my career. The upside down Curriculum allowed me to get exposure to the field early in my college career and have many opportunites to do internships and work in my field well before graduation. I worked with career services nearing graduation and also went to the annual job fair. I was recruited and hired by a very prestigious organization for which I worked at for 5+ years. I have since moved on to a smaller startup but can honestly say owe a large part of my success directly to the education I received and the opportunities that were presented to my while at Champlain. I have many friends who have changed careers or never went into their field of study and I think they would all agree that Champlain did a great job preparing us for the real world.”

I hope that helps - I’ll see if I can find others to join in on the conversation!

I’m popping this thread back up to report back on my May 2015 Champlain grad. My son graduated with a degree in CNIS - Computer Networking and Information Security, with a specialty in cyber-security and a minor in Digital Forensics. He got three job offers. The first offer came in the fall of his senior year. Champlain is apparently the gold standard for Digital Forensics and Cyber-Security and getting a job is not a problem for the good student.

I have three kids, who all went to private colleges, and I have to say that the career services at Champlain were more helpful in setting up events and preparing students for internships and jobs. All that said, an English/Psychology/Film major is going to have a harder time finding a job than someone in a STEM field.
