Graduating a year early?

Hello. Currently, I am a fifteen year old sophomore in high school. My schedule as it stands for next year is set for me to skip my junior year (my mother is pushing for this). I will be graduating at 16 if I do this. I really don't know if I want to leave high school that early and I probably won't be mature enough for college. On the other hand, if I went another year I would have to take extra classes that are unneccessary. However, there is something I need to explain first.

I took German I in 7th and 8th grade. In 7th grade, I had teacher A and in 8th grade I had teacher B. Teacher A retired after I took German in 7th grade (first half of German 1). However, I changed schools when I went to high school (I was in IB before at a different school than I was zoned for). Teacher C taught at the high school I go to now, but got fired. Since no other teacher could be found, teacher A un-retired to come back and teach the students who were abandoned after German I. I took the class with them. So basically, I have two years of German, but most universities want 3.

In my schedule, I am set to take two French's. My guidance councellor says that she could write a special letter to a university that wants 3 language credits to explain my situation OR I could take French at tech OR I could extend my schedule to senior year and take French 3 then.

I just don't know what to do! I really don't think I'm ready to graduate early, but my mom really wants me to, and I have already changed my schedule. I would have to change it AGAIN. There are so many things I want to accomplish in high school that I haven't accomplished yet..

If YOU don’t want to, and feel like you’ll be missing out on a lot, then don’t. You’ll be glad later you didn’t.

My .02

I think you’re right CE, but I’m going to give this serious thought. I don’t think I want to grow up this fast.

I only know a few people who graduate early and it’s for special reasons. I really don’t understand why your mom would want you to graduate early. If you simply don’t want to, then don’t. Personally, it’ll suck to graduate early, it feels like you’re being rushed.

My advice, You’re 15. Stop stressing out. Go to the Fridge. Pull out the ice cream. Turn on the cable and chill. Enjoy this simple time in your life. Don’t let it get away.

I’d recommend taking dual-enrollment classes instead of graduating early. They’re free (or at least cheaper) and some of them will transfer so you’ll save money in college. And you won’t have to move or give up high school completely.

IMO, there’s really no good reason for early graduation in the majority of cases. Getting a college degree at 20/21 instead of 22 won’t help your career in any way, and there are plenty of other opportunities for taking advanced classes.
