Graduating from UVa in 1 Year?

Wow, this guy David is crazy! With all this AP credits, he's graduating from UVa after only doing his freshman year. Furthermore, I can't imagine someone taking 37 credits in one semester. That's around 10-12 classes this semester alone (depending on the credit value of his classes).

Here's an article about him in the Cavalier Daily.
http://www.cavalierdaily.com/CVArticle.asp?ID=27010&pid=1443

I saw the article, oh my goodness!!!

i hate smart people, they make me feel so insignificant

I haven't seen any evidence that he's particularly smart, just that he works super hard. Well, I guess he's an Echols Scholar, but stilll...

you can be dumb, and hard working, and still not have a 3.7 on 12 credits, let alone 37.

you have to be smart to do that

I guess. But geez, how many times do you think he's been out on Rugby Rd?

hey come on now, not everyone is into that. after all, he is an avid bridge player ;-)

Oh Jags, you're not insignificant. I'm sure you're pretty intelligent yourself. You did get into UVa out-of-state after all.

aww thanks globalist, you're a sweetheart ;-)

you always know how to make me feel better ahah. time to study for my astronomy test in...40 minutes woooooo

Good luck!

jesus, whoever said he wasn't smart has a stick up his butt.

"My grades have definitely suffered," Banh said. "They are not at as good as they could be. I still have a 3.7, but if I was taking four or five classes, I can't see myself getting less than a 3.95. I am rather banking on this strange story of graduating in one year to explain as to why my grades are not higher."

... such the spokesman for vietnam.

I never said he wasn't smart, but I haven't seen any evidence that he's smarter than jags.

hahaha - well if it helps i killed myself to get a B in calc 132 - i'm going to assume he didn't do very much to get an A in it - especially since he opted to drop his ap credits ;-).

thanks for the encouragement, i've just had a rough 2 weeks.

You did get into UVA as an OOS student. That mean something, right?

For some reason I still doubt it cause it would be very hard to get in 72 credits from high school. Also taking 40 credits a semester. That's crazy. That's like 10 classes. Also all he's taking is like math classes and stuff. Just stuff for his diploma.

Be aware the article doesn't mention some important points about majors - concentrations/flavors if you will. Both math and physics have them and they make huge difference on how much work is required. Physics BA is very easy to get, while it is the BS that requires significant work (which I would be confident guessing he isn't going for), and there's also math concentrations. The basic math concentration just requires some sampling from the 300 level courses, while for instnace the graduate preparatory one requires a very extensive sample from 500's and most 300's.

As far as why cancelling calculus credits - there's only so many AP/transfer credits you can apply towards a degree, the rest have to come from UVA. I imagine he hit that limit with the 72, so he couldn't use all 72 if he wanted to. The reason I think he dropped calc 1 and 2 is because both of those are very easy to take again and do well if you already know them.

He's on the fast track to burning himself out. Is that what college life is supposed to be about?

I'm sorry, but he seems a bit one dimensional. He claims he plays online bridge and loves his suite mates, but he probably only sleeps about 4 hrs a night. Never goes to parties. No sports...etc.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Thanks for pointing out the blatantly obvious, spicoli ;) .

hes actually a pretty cool guy - I've met him through a mutual friend and we had dinner one day last semester.

assuming makes...well, you know.

Hey, if David can pull it off in 1 year, all the power to him.
