Not really sure what your question is, but at SCS for example if you can stay for a fifth year and get an MS. Depending on how much AP or other credit you have coming into the university, the fifth year may not actually be a fifth year. The university requires four semesters or 180 units at a minimum, but some departments/schools may require more. If you go to [2008-2010 Undergraduate Catalog](<a href=“2024-2025 Undergraduate Catalog < Carnegie Mellon University”>2024-2025 Undergraduate Catalog < Carnegie Mellon University) you can find the answers to most of these questions.

One of my friends managed to do a BS/MS in Materials Science in four years with almost no AP credit. I could have gotten a MS if I had planned ahead a little more and not graduated early.

The standard timeframe is you start your MS in your fourth year and then graduate your fifth year with your BS and MS at the same time.
