Graduating with a BFA and want to get a degree in CS?

Hi everyone,
Next May I’ll be graduating with a BFA in Computer Animation. I want to get a degree in Computer Science, but I am embarrassed to say I am confused and intimidated by the whole process of going into another degree program, how grad school works/whether I should even be looking into grad school/should I be looking into getting another Bachlors/etc. I don’t even know where to start looking in to this and I need help… My biggest worry is that my BFA is useless in terms of trying to get into a CS program. Sorry that my questions are so broad, I’m not even sure where to go to look into more information on this. I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some general thoughts or advice for a person in my situation who wants to go on to study computer science.

I don’t think much will be different: try to attend a school that offers CS and complete the degree. Ideally somewhere where your credits for the BFA will count towards the degree. I believe you will be considered a transfer student though I’m not sure. That would be for undergraduate (BS/BA)

If you wanted a graduate degree, it would take a ton of classes and time in school. I would recommend the undergraduate which you could probably get in 2/3 years given credit in the general classes with your BFA transfer credit.

You would need to find a school which accepts second bachelor’s degree students majoring in CS. Usually, these are less selective schools.

You may want to check if the frosh/soph level CS and math courses are available at inexpensive community colleges. Check the four year schools’ transfer credit listings to be sure.

A non-engineering-based CS major’s CS and math requirements should take about 35-50% of a full bachelor’s degree’s worth of courses, while an engineering-based CS major should take somewhat more due to added science (usually physics) and math requirements. Course work from your BFA should cover many of the humanities-type breadth requirements.
