Graduation Chords?

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming college freshman this fall, and I've been seeing pictures of my college friends that have graduated, many with 3-6 cords along with stoles. Sorry if this seems trivial but what do these cords mean?

*I meant to say cords in the title.

Often it means they’re a member of some sort of honor society, for example Tau Sigma. Sometimes those societies give stoles instead.

Also, sometimes multiple cords might be a set for one society. A friend of mine looked like she had four cords, so I asked her about it and both of the groups she was in had a set of two different colored cords that were knotted together in the back.

They basically represent honor societies that people are members of. I had a few for my HS graduation as well.

I was decked out at my high school gradutation. Some groups gave out/received cords that really lowered the “prestige” of having a cord in my opinion.

I’ll give them all to my sister this weekend. She’s not in any of those groups or had high enough grades, but it’ll be pretty funny.
