Graduation gift ideas

Emerald,

Of course, you should give the kids what they want - some kids would be completely thrown by jewelry, some absolutely love it. (I'm a "practical jewelry" person - and the watch I have on right now was a Christmas present in 1999. I guess your D & I would balance each other out.)

As for things becoming obsolete - my 2002 computer is not obsolete, mostly because I got a fast processor at the time (Pentium 4) and take good care of it (Pentium 4s aren't used often anymore, because they fry out the motherboard when they overheat). In the past few years, though, "gadgets" have really changed - the cells are tiny, all colour screens; the IPods have shrunk and gotten new features... not sure if Palm Pilot technology has changed a lot, but it might have... they've been replaced by Blackberries in a lot of ways.

Both of my kids got a TV/DVD combination unit as one of their graduation gifts. Both are very happy to have them and use them alot.
