Graduation regalia

Montegut, I called the reps last year, and they put CBHP on my son’s announcement. So it does pay to speak with someone.

Thanks, Momreads. How do I find out what rep to speak to? I called the 1 800 number on Balfour’s site and they couldn’t help me. Hopefully when the Supestore opens next week, I can get more info.

On another note, my son did get his picture taken at the College Fair last week. Stacy Jones, the photographer, sent an email this morning with the picture. It is so nice! We did order a package, with digital photo and touch up, because we have a big family who will want an announcement and a picture. Since he’s our only child, this is our big splurge. But hey, around these parts, graduating from college is a BIG DEAL, and something to be celebrated.

I am so sorry. I misspoke. Not College Fair, but Graduation Fair. For you underclass parents, it’s an event that was held last week, yes, while the kids had midterms, projects, etc, where a photographer was on campus to take their picture in regalia (photographer provided), and there were vendors for announcements and rings, and the bookstore had graduation merchandise on sale, discounted, like the cap and gown, diploma frames. No appointment was necessary for the photography. I had contacted someone at the yearbook and they said if your kid gets his picture taken that day, it will go in the yearbook. I’m not sure if you had to buy a package for this or not, I think I heard two different versions, but we went ahead and bought the package for the family. I honestly don’t know how I found out about this grad fair. Son certainly didn’t inform me of it. I actually accidentally heard about the necessity for ordering cap and gown and went to the Supestore website, and I think that’s where I saw the Grad Fair announcement.

DS was at SupeStore the last day of this - just by chance - he opted for no picture since he wasn’t prepared (read scruffy). The person there did help him work out his announcement (with no picture went traditional) so at least we are set with the basics. Guess we’ll have to get professional photo done later. :frowning:

Although my son got his cap and gown last week, he didn’t opt for the photo. I will probably order the photo that is taken at graduation.

I did get a call from Zap yesterday, returning my call. The students will get a card before ceremonies, where they will write their name, address, email, etc. A picture will be taken when they receive their diploma, and they will be escorted backstage for a photo once they leave the stage. They said we will receive an email the following week about how to order pictures.

That’s great to know, thanks. I also believe that a video of the graduation ceremony will be available for purchase. What is Zap?

Zap is the company that is taking the still photos at the ceremony. A different company is doing the DVD. I believe I found the name on the registrar page that an above poster gave a link to. A different company took the pictures at the Supestore last week. I believe the pictures at the Supestore are the ones going into the yearbook, but I’m not sure if you needed to purchase a package for it to go in the yearbook or not.

I tell you, I toyed with the Photo Done Later option myself, since the kids do own their cap and gown, so they could actually pose for one later. Husband just encouraged son to get it done there that day since these people do it all the time, it would go quicker, and we could get it over with.

I purchased photos from Zap including the green screen versions with UA-themed backgrounds. My graduation announcements included a more candid photo as I felt that it better reflected my time at UA.

The day after my graduation, I went around campus and took pictures in my graduation attire. A lot my fellow graduates were doing the same.

Remember too that you can take pictures of your graduate in your town as well. One of my favorite graduation pictures is of me visiting a popular Seattle restaurant chain in full graduation attire to get the free cheeseburger offered to all new graduates.

SEA_tide: good idea to take photos the next day…might be more relaxing.

Son graduates Saturday morning and there will be a mad rush to clear out of the dorm, so we won’t have the time for those candid shots. Glad there will be green screen options from the Zap people.

^^ Ha! I still haven’t taken the HS grad pics I was supposed to take ‘after’ that ceremony, nearly 2 years later…

Not to be too technical, but is the red mortarboard for all A’s or for a 4.0 by the time of graduation?

The red mortarboard is for graduates with 4.0 GPAs.

While I was recently down in Tuscaloosa during Honors Day/Weekend, there were many families taking pictures of students in graduation robes at various locations around UA. If you have the robe/mortarboard/cords early, and you don’t live too far away, I think it would be recommended to take pictures ahead of time. The Quad and all the spring plantings just looked great! Never seen the lawns looking so good, actually…Seeing all of this made me very sad that I’ll be doing the same in just 1 year’s time. It has gone by SOOOOO fast. :((

Congrats to all of you graduates and parents! I’ll be down this weekend even though the young man decided not to walk. His brother had more of a bumpy ride as a freshman this year. Hopefully, he’s learned from his mistakes and will complete his degree. Thanks to all of you that helped with advice as we were considering 'Bama four years ago! My son has had a wonderful 4 years and emerged with a Chem E. degree, job, and wonderful memories. Enjoy the weekend!

Loring, congrats to your son and all the other graduates this year. My son will also be graduating and I remembered you and I had shared a few emails wayyy back when. It’s hard to believe four years have flown by. My son also had a wonderful four years. Marching band and pep band, Fraternity fun etc, etc. He will be graduating with an aerospace engineering degree, an acceptance to grad school and hopefully some employment this summer. Just have to make it through the week. Best of luck to all. RTR.

For those with double majors from different colleges, do most kids participate in both ceremonies or usually just pick one?
