Graduation Tickets

Was wondering how easy it might be to bring extra people into the IU auditorium for the
Kelley School graduation? Son only received two tickets and when he went to get more this morning, they were out. We have grandparents who really want to watch him get the diploma.....any advice?

I had to search this out because your question wasn’t making sense based upon what I know about IU graduation. The tickets and the auditorium didn’t make sense.

The ticketed event is a recognition ceremony for Kelley at the auditorium the night before graduation.

Graduation is on May 5 in Assembly Hall. No tickets are required. Kelley Students graduate in the morning ceremony. The “bad” news for you and the grandparents is that son will not be actually receiving his diploma that day. It will be mailed to him several weeks later. I haven’t been to an IU graduation since I graduated many years ago, but I believe it’s still the case that the students do not walk up on stage or anything. They stand up as a school/class.

We’ll be there that afternoon watching DD graduate and attend a dinner for her school the night before.

Congrats to you and your son.

I’m sorry you’ve been unable to secure more tickets to this event. They didn’t handle ticket distribution this way in 2011 and it was packed. Perhaps that’s why they changed it to just 2 tix per family. As parents, you don’t want to miss this ceremony. Each name will be called and each graduate will walk across the stage. It is a much more intimate experience than the grad ceremony at Assembly Hall the next day.

Unless your son knows someone with extra tickets they are willing to give away, which is pretty doubtful, I think the grandparents will be out of luck. I do see that the event will be live-streamed on the web, so perhaps you can set them up with a laptop so they can at least view the ceremony that way.
Congrats to your son and rrah’s daughter, too!

There are lots of listings for tickets to Kelley grad ceremonies in the Onestart “Classified” section, under “Tickets & Events.” Be prepared to be gouged, however, as these are Kelley grads that won’t be attending the ceremony that are selling their tickets, ha ha.

^^^putting that Kelley education into practice! I’d pay if I was in the OP’s shoes.

I was happy to see that Dean Smith sent out an email saying: "Please, if you have extra tickets, I ask that you return them to my office in Suite 3000 of the Graduate Building so we can distribute them to families who need them. It simply is not right for anyone to profit from tickets that were given to you in the spirit that you would use them for
yourselves.”

Thankfully they said they are going to distribute the tickets differently next year, hopefully avoiding this problem.
