Graduation vs. Greece/Turkey Vacation

I'm taking a vacation to Santorini & Mykonos, Greece and Istanbul, Turkey next week. However in order to go I would have to skip an underage drinking seminar that is required for attending graduation. My parents already bought me plane tickets (it was $1500). So either I take this vacation or I go to graduation in May.

I've been hearing that graduation means as much as you think it does, and it really means nothing to me. It has no special meaning to me at least, it's just a formality and I'm ready to move on. And the whole time I'll just be mad that I had to give up a trip oversees to be at the ceremony, and mad that my parents kinda indirectly payed 1500 for me to go to graduation. I don't particularly like my school, or feel apart of it. I hate the administration, not because of disciplinary problems or anything, they just run things terribly.

Do you think I would regret not going? Have any of you skipped your graduation?

Just ask if you can go over the underage drinking stuff another time.

It’s a once a year event, I offered to write an essay or something it place of it. But this vacation is not “excused” by the school technically because I have missed 13 days which is the limit for Ohio. So I would be unexcused, and the principal told me that I wouldn’t be able to make up stuff for this time.

Do you know where you’re going to college? Good, then take the vacation. You’ll be better off. While in Greece have a shot of Ouzo and toast your classmates (drinking age is 18, 17 in Cyprus) then send a pic of same to the principal stating that you’re holding your own seminar. Enjoy! You won’t miss graduation only the parties, but they’ll be plenty more.
