My son graduated a few weeks ago. I was a bit apprehensive about the crowds and how the ceremony would go - each one is 90 minutes so we figured the students would not even go across the stage.
I was wrong, it was wonderful! They each went across the stage to shake hands with the various deans and dignitaries, their names were read as they walked across, they got their degrees (moved the tassel), got invited into the alumni association, heard a few speakers, and the whole place sang the alma mater. It was in the Bryce Jordan Center and there were plenty of seats. And it did end in 90 minutes as planned.
The only downside was that we did not have time to take son's photo with the lion.
But if you are wondering if it is worth it to go (in the past it was done all together, I think in the stadium, now it is broken up by college) it definitely is.

yes, each college has its own graduation ceremony.

My husband's department has a graduation brunch each spring and fall. All the families come and students are recognized for special achievements, leadership in student groups, etc. It is always one of my favorite PSU events.
