Graham went 13!

Too bad he had to go to the damn Eagles though. I wanted him at 15. At least we got Jason Pierre-Paul -- freak of nature.

Graham and Warren going in the first and third rounds respectively makes you wonder how much worse our defense is going to be in 2010! Yikes!!!

Warren hasn’t been drafted yet…

warren what?

Donovan Warren. Still hasn’t been drafted yet.

most important news of the draft: zoltan to patriots in 5th round

Warren wasn’t drafted at all.

7th stevie brown… warren undrafted, signed w/ jets

I hate that sh**. Leave school early and you don’t even get picked.

too bad you cant short draft “stock” :-p

trust me, warren preferred to go undrafted than be picked in the 6th or 7th

What do you all think of the Detroit Lions’ draft this year?

Not that I agree with that statement (doesn’t make sense, actually), but what I meant was he could’ve played another year. The whole point in leaving early is you think your draft stock is at its peak. He did as worse as he possibly could have.

I haven’t been keeping up with my sports nearly as much as I used to (been reallly busy this year), so I don’t know much about their rounds 3-7 picks. I thought their first two were very solid – Ndamukong (DonkeyKong?) Suh particularly. He is a mammoth of a tackle and has a freakin 35" vertical. Jahvid Best is baller as well.

giants, leaving early is never a good idea except in very unique circumstances (being an important part of a winning team, winning a major award, such as the Heisman, Thorpe, Nagurski or Bednarik). Warren was not that unique in any way and reallycould have benefited from one more year of college ball. Yes, he was one of the top 5 CBs in the Big 10 (possibly one of the top 10 in the nation), but that is not enough to justify leaving early. The Michigan defense sucked last year, and he did not do much to prevent that.

Ty Law and Charles Woodson pulled it off, but those guys were on the cover of several magazines for incredible plays, won (or almost won) major awards and played major parts in winning teams.

“possibly one of the top 10 in the nation”

No he’s not. Only Michigan fans buy that koolaid. He’s slow for a CB (4.6 40) and has average hips. There were 32 CBs drafted before him so he cant possibly be top 10 in the nation unless the scouts are all stupid (If he were drafted as say the 15th CB you could have made that argument and say well he’s just a little underated and the NFL scouts made a little mistake, but they do not make mistakes like not picking a top 10 player in his position in 32 picks).

“Yes, he was one of the top 5 CBs in the Big 10”
That doesnt mean much. First of all, Big 10 sucks. Second of all, there were only 4 big ten CB drafted in this draft, so being the 5th CB in the Big 10 means undrafted (btw, even Michigan St CB Ware got drafted ahead of warren).

“Warren was not that unique in any way and reallycould have benefited from one more year of college ball.”
I do not disagree with the fact that he should have come back, but I do disagree with that saying that “he REALLY could have benefited from one more year of college ball”. I think Donovan Warren has maxed out. You cant teach speed, you cant teach hips, you can only teach techniques and trust me, donovan warren is polished and that’s his greatest strength. There’s really not much improve technique-wise for him. The people who benefit the most from returning are the ones who are physical freaks with raw techniques.

“Not that I agree with that statement (doesn’t make sense, actually)”
It actually does make sense. The monetary difference is not much (you dont get much guaranteed money down to the 6th and 7th round and most draft picks in that region get cut anyway). Being an UDFA gives you the choice to pick the best situation to succeed in"

I don’t agree with that marginal benefit of being able to “pick the best situation” because it’s not like scores of teams are chomping at the bit for undrafted free agents. I believe at least being drafted holds some merit vs. going undrafted.
