My 15 year old freshman daughter is currently taking her 2nd CTY online course (persuasive essay writing). She is a very good writer, but does commit grammar errors that are hard to break. I think she could be a much better writer if the grammatical problems were addressed. The essay course instructors seem to overlook this issue in her submitted work.

Does anyone have any experience with online grammar courses like CTY? Local colleges? She has applied to a boarding school and will hopefully get an admission offer this week. I am just trying to find an opportunity for her to improve on her grammar usage.

I am taking an advanced grammar course at the local university (I am an adult student). I have been learning quite a bit -- but to be honest, a good book would probably help just as much. There isn't anything too complicated -- just a matter of learning the rules and practicing them.

We are using Blumenthal's English 3200 and Diagramming by Design by Vitto for my class. both are standard college texts.

A good homeschooling text on grammar is Analytical Grammar: http://www.analyticalgrammar.com/

Stanford EPGY www.stanford.edu then go to academics/k-12/ under English courses there is a course for grammar-you recieve credit as well! Good luck.
