This/These/There – Placeholders that often weaken and bloat the sentence. Usually, the subject goes at the start (or near the start) of the sentence.
Was – Don’t automatically delete it, but check to make sure the sentence is not passive.
People/“You” – Not specific enough. Who is being addressed? Citizens, voters, students, parents, teachers, business owners, consumers, readers of science-fiction?
Many/One – Very vague way of implying actions without substantiating. “Many disapprove of the policy”. Many who? Many professors? “One is better off saving their money”? Who is “one”? A consumer?.
Good – Good in what way? Profitable? Productive? Beneficial? Ethical? Logical?
Bad – Bad in what way? Dangerous? Risky? Depraved? Illogical? Costly?
Thing – What is the thing? Is it an idea, a policy, an institution, a social norm, a concern, a sentiment?
