Can someone please tell me how to differentiate between the past and the past perfect. And how to know when each of them is wrong ?

da nty ? na olt agrblk xD

mesh fhma agrblk eih ?

Past perfect has “had” in it.

Simple past: I ate
Past perfect: I had eaten

Simple past: I worked
Past perfect: I had worked

I don’t think you need to know the names of the tenses on the SAT, though.

do some research.
A sat question of past perfect.
26. Traffic was heavy, so by the time Brianne finally arrived at the theater, we waited for her for an hour, missing the entire first act of the play.
waited–>had waited.
by the time indicates that the action ‘occured’ after the action ‘we waited’.
if there are 2 actions in a sentence, the action takes place before the other action should be in past perfect.
