But why does the error lie in B? What would make it grammatically correct?</p>

But would it be correct if it is had lost? because of the since? could someone please explain this to me.</p>

<p>i think number 1 is just syntax...i don't really know why it's right but it sounds right
most of the grammar stuff is usually based on "feeling" as opposed to grammar although there are some that really do require full on grammar
just read more books/etc but i don't know how much it'll help since you probably have the test soon</p>

<p>as for number 3 i think it's B because you don't know if 1955 is current so they may be referring to "lost" as well instead of "losing" for parallelism.</p>

<p>To perhaps clarify what Ren said on the first question, it is not important "how" the goldfields were discovered, but rather that they were discovered.
In the second example, you succeed in doing something, not with doing something.</p>
