Hey everyone :)

1) "Plants grown for their flowers should be treated with a low-nitrogen fertilizer because excessive nitrogen promotes the growth of leaves [at the expense of] flowers."

The correct answer is no error.

I was wondering why putting "the" infront of flowers wouldn't improve the sentence.

2) 29 At the reception were the chattering guests, the three-tiered cake, and the lively music that have become [characteristic] of many wedding celebrations."

This is also a no error.

Could someone please explain why characteristic should not be characteristics?

Thank-you :D
