Grammar Question

What's the answer to this?

Despite the attorney's moving plea, the judge placed the juvenile offender on probation for an indecisive period.

Thank you!

Nevermind. I figured it out. Inanimate objects can't be indecisive. Whoops.

Indecisive is wrong. Diction error.

indecisive

maybe indecisive should be indeterminate? idk

Indecisive=you can't decide on how long the period is maybe? I haven't dealt with diction errors a lot but now that's just one more thing to look over before I move onto the next question. Still, what's wrong with my first sentence?

Okay... I have two more questions:

After the prince characterized modern architecture as ugly he has been severely criticized for having been so outspoken in public. No error

I have gone to only one football game after I graduated from high school. No error

Please tell me what's wrong and explain! Thank you!

i believe "has been" is wrong, and "after" is incorrect, too. i think "has been" should be "was" (or maybe something else-idk), and "after" should be "since".

I agree with arachnophobia12 on both. he was critized after being so outspoken, so you need the simple past tense. The "has been" implies that he was criticized, and still being critized. in the second sentence, "have gone" is present perfect, (implying that something was started in the past and is continuing now, kinda like a still-standing record). Therefore, (I think) you need a word as a reference point, like the word "since"

Where did you see these sentences?

Thanks guys! I saw the sentences in Collegeboard tests... I'm pretty sure it was in the extra 6 practice tests or something.

Quote : I'm pretty sure it was in the extra 6 practice tests or something.

Are those extra 6 in the book or online? The online ones should have explanations
