Grammar Question

This is from the BB edition 2, practice test 10. section 3
Question number 10

The reason for the continued popularity of country western performers is (that it draws on) experiences with which almost everyone can identify.
a. that it draws on
b. that their music draws on
c. because the music draws on
d. because of them drawing from
e. they will draw from

I said D, it fixes the antecedent problem, and fits well. They said b, because it fixes the antecedent problem. However, you cannot say "the reason...is that" you must say "the reason...is because". Am i right?

No, you have the rule backwards. :)

“reason” already indicates “why” and “because”; using those words is redundant. One should say, “the reason that” or “the reason…is that.”

Haha, wow im stupid. Thanks

Don’t repeat because when you have reason already.

Btw Silverturtle, Good Luck on Saturday. :)

I’m taking it too.

Thanks. I am feely somewhat regretful that I have not taken more practice tests (only three, and they were over break). I might try to squeeze one in Friday after school.

aren’t you a senior? btw I see you post in the transfer students forum all the time. are you planning to retake it to transfer?

crazy bandit what is your SAT score? Are you even a highschooler?

i’m a senior, and i roam this forum still because i’m planning to retake it at the end of my senior year for transfer admissions (you can transfer to a different college after a year or two at one, but most still want to see your high school stats, sadly)

first time CR 540, writing 710, math 700
second time CR 620, writing 720, math 750

planning to get a 2400 just because i have the extra time

I’m a senior, but I usually post in the transfer-student forum for my help or additional questions people may have.

I hope I score a 550, 600, 630-700 on Saturday.
(I didn’t really take the effort to take practice exams to raise my score.)

Good idea Silverturtle, I might finish up whatever unanswered questions in my Barrons/Princeton Review. And then take at least two in the Blue Book this week.

why are you retaking it though? are you applying to colleges that accept the January SAT or are you planning to use it in the transfer admissions process?

Both because I believe that I can raise my score each time as I take it. I only applied to colleges that accept January SAT scores. I may be transferring to a top-tier, I may not.

Silverturtle is a junior btw.
