grammar rules for uc prompt?

can someone give me some guidelines to create a UC essay that uses correct grammar. I know it is frowned upon to use passive voice. What else is there not to use? The word 'this' is also bad.

You seem to not be talking about grammar, but writing style (neither passive voice or “this” are solecisms). And no tips or rules will make you a better writer. So just go with what you know. You have to trust (or hope) that you know what decent writing looks like. Good luck.

Totally agree with enfieldacademy!

The best advice is just stick to what you know. Don’t use big words that you looked up on thesaurus but don’t actually know the meaning to. Don’t use semi-colons, colons, or commas if you don’t know how to use them (Especially semi-colons! Using properly, all the prove is that you’ve been to college. Used incorrectly and you just look like an idiot. Commas work just as fine! And who said periods were too trivial!? Use them, please! Short declarative sentences are just as poignant as long, flowery, proses.) Refer to yourself as “I”, “me”, or “myself” instead of referring to yourself as “one”. Contextually, I find that many applicants, when addressing prompt 1 especially, they focus too much on the community/school/family and don’t have enough focus on themselves. It’s about you!

Write in your own voice. More specific writing tips are relevant until after you have some semblance of a draft.

^Please stop spamming.
