I think the general consensus is that it was legit, but the company disappeared for some reason.

It is not a scam. Perhaps they had some legality issues based on some quick googling, it appears they had trouble with delivering materials on time. Maybe too great customer dissatisfaction shut them down?

Anyways, how much is the book?

Nevermind,
I got the book.
The CR tips were FANTASTIC.
No score increase however finished with 10 minutes to spare lol. Guess that 10 minutes should equate 20 more points to my score if i check answers.

Actually using those 10 minutes can drastically increase your score. If you are starting in the 600 range, a right answer is usually +10 points. 10 minutes would be plenty of time to check all the questions and would usually allow you to check 4 or 5 unsure questions.

Yea Grammatix is amazing for CR, big timesaver. It’s states the obvious, yet not so obvious to an average test taker. I actually saw 130 point increase just after using that guide.

Yeah, I thought it was really stupid and obvious… until my score jumped 60 points.

I have some interesting news about Grammatix that you should know about. For one thing, Mike Barrett says that he will refund anyone in the first sixty days after buying his book if they are not satisfied. He did not honor that. He never even responded to my email. Another interesting fact is that his book is about fifty dollars. He sells the same book on Michele Hernadez’s website for $280. he calls it something different like the Ultimate SAT Guide. Since both Michele and Mike frequent CC, I welcome them to respond to this.

We don’t really care about his company policies. most of us are here for the content.

Just got done reading this book and the strategies seem solid. However, I’m going to put them to the test soon :)

anybody w/the book please PM me how to get the book :]

Well Meadow36, what do you think of his belief that the entire reading passage of the CR does not have to be read?

Thanks for your questions - I haven’t been on CC for awhile, but a friend pointed me to your post. Mike Barrett works with me as part of my company doing one-on-one tutoring and also selling his guide which sells for $280. It’s on my web page under products (not sure I’m allowed to give my web site, but if you google Michele Hernandez, you’ll find my web page - I don’t want the moderator to shoot me, but since you asked). It’s not identical to the old grammatix guide (in fact, I don’t think Mike’s old company exists anymore, but I’m not 100% sure about that). We did a substantial revision to his old version, adding our own intro along with entirely new sections (the whole critical reading for example was NOT part of the original guide) and made changes throughout the booklet as well. It is, in my opinion, one of the best guides out there on the SAT and almost all of my students work with Mike personally and use his guide as well and the results have been amazing. And just to assure anyone, I always stand behind all the products sold on my website and have issued refunds when merited with no problem. I’m not sure how you attempted to contact Mike, but you can email me privately and I’m happy to connect you to him - possible he doesn’t use his old email anymore? Let me know if you have additional questions. Thanks, Michele

Why is your guide priced $280? I have no intentions of buying anything other than the blue book, but I’ve always wondered why SAT guides are so expensive. Once the book is written, I assume that there is no other costs for it right, since it’s an e-book? If so, you should really cut the price down to like 30 or 40 dollars and aggressively advertise to middle class students who would like to do well on the SAT but can’t shell out hundreds or thousands for SAT prep.

Keep in mind that SAT prep often runs $200-400 an hour and it’s not unusual for students serious about top colleges to shell out $15-$20K on SAT prep (trust me, I’m not saying this is a good thing – I think the SAT is a stupid test, but no one asked me). Blame the College Board for creating an entire industry of test prep, guides, etc… I’m not going to defend my own pricing but to point out we are responsible for marketing, advertising, running a major online web site/store, we have a staff who works with us, so the cost is never just as simple as “this is what it costs us to make.” Information can be expensive, but as many others have said, Mike’s approach is amazing and has helped students make huge gains on the SAT, so in the scheme of things, a few hundred dollars is a wise investment for those who can afford it. It is one of our best selling products as well, so judging my sales, it’s priced at a good price point and is in fact available to middle class kids who are largely the ones buying it.
