Grammy Camp?

I know popular/commercial music types are in the minority on this board, but just thought I'd put a feeler out.

Is anyone here going to Grammy Camp this year? Or is there anyone here who has been in the last couple years?

My son is a rising senior, and was accepted to Grammy Camp in L.A. this summer as a bassist. Just wondered if anyone has advice on how to best take advantage of this opportunity, or to make some connections w/ other kids going.

Thanks!

Not a great or direct response to your question, but son just finished his junior year in the USC popular music performance program and has a housemate and several friends who did Grammy camp. It gives your son and some of the USC faculty an opportunity to get to know and understand each other. If he is interested in this program I would make sure he takes the time to make sure he gets to know any folks working the camp who are involved in the program. Best wishes.

I know that Grammy Camp had a huge number of applicants and was very selective this year, so congrats to your son. My son is a sophomore in USC’s popular music program and like Raddad’s S, he knows a few Grammy Camp alums in the program, as well as one who is coming in as a freshman. I also believe there are some USC students who will serving as “counselors.” Chris Sampson, who runs the popular music major, is also heavily involved in GC.

Perhaps one of the organizers might be able to put your son in touch with some other soon-to-be campers.

Congratulations! This is great for his music resume. Bassists are already in demand, so this just makes him even more valuable to fellow musicians who need his talent.

Thanks all for your responses! My son does indeed hope to go to the Popular Music program at USC, and will start his application this summer/fall, so I’m glad to hear he’s heading in the right direction with Grammy Camp! We’ll look out for USC students as counselors, and hope to make some nice connections!
