Grand Valley State for Business or UMICH for Econ?

Hi guys, so right now I am a sophomore at Grand Valley majoring in accounting and finance. I recently applied and got accepted to the LSA School at Michigan for this Fall, however I still haven’t made up my mind on the issue of whether or not to attend. Im seeking peoples opinions on the pros and cons of both schools.
My background; double majoring in Accounting and Finance, 3.7 GPA, very mediocre HS grads, 27 ACT, a couple of clubs and sports.
If I did attend the LSA School I would probably major in economics, because if I wanted to continue majoring in Accounting and Finance I would have to apply too Ross, and if I got in I wouldn’t be able to attend it until the fall of 2016. Also, none of the business courses I have taken at GV would count at Ross, they would count for just general credits, so I would have to retake all of those classes (about 2 semesters worth).
Does anyone know about or have any opinions about a BA or BS in Econ from U of M? how hard would it be? Is it a useful and practical major? Is a degree at U of M worth more that a degree at Grand Valley?
Thanks

Is MSU Broad an option? I’m biased, but UMich econ is fairly overrated (this is coming from an MSU SCM student who strongly considered transferring to UMich to major in economics). There are a ton of econ majors at Michigan, thinking it will give them options because of the UM name (which can be true if you network a lot), but at they end of the day they are all left fighting for the scraps of the Ross kids. Business at MSU is still heavily recruited (although you will have a tough time getting investment banking if that’s what you’re after).

To be honest, I didn’t even know that Grand Valley had a business school. If I were you I would go to UMich, but if Broad were an option I would strongly consider that as well.

IMO:

UMich Ross> MSU Broad> UMich econ> GV business

U Mich if it’s affordable. It will be an internationally recognized degree regardless of major just because it is U Mich. Most people outside of Michigan have never even heard of the other university.

Does anyone know about or have any opinions about a BA or BS in Econ from U of M?

Its a UM degree so it has that going for it. If I had to pick one, I would go for the BS just because it seems more practical to me and if you are studying Accountig you should be good with math. You would be avoiding the language class for LSA I believe.

how hard would it be?

Harder than GVSU with out a doubt. You will have to work harder. The teachers will expect more out of you and you will need to bring your A game.

Is it a useful and practical major?

When it comes to practicality I would say not as much as a BBA from Ross, but it still is a degree with the UM name attached to it and there are plenty of oprotunites out there with a degree from UM, its what you choose to do with it. But with the BS or BA in Economics you might have to do some graduate school but I a no expert on that.

Is a degree at U of M worth more that a degree at Grand Valley?

Is that even a question? In every way: cost, value, prestige, quality, etc… You are comparing a top 10 public university in the World to an “up an coming” or “best-buy” state university.
