Grand Valley State University

I am a Michigan resident, and am in my junior year of hs. I have a 31 composite ACT score and a 3.8 weighted gpa. I have been visiting different colleges in Michigan and Illinois. GVSU was basically the one school tat I had no interest in attending whatsoever. After visiting, however, I really loved the open, quiete campus. I like how clean the campus looks and how new everything seems. Also there would be completed brand new honors college dorms the MY FRESHMAN YEAR. I also like the fact that they have d2 sports and that the football team is great for a d2 school. but that there is not the hustle and bustle of a huge athletics driven state institution.

My only doubt that I have sitting in the back of my head, though, is prestige. I want to major possibly in Advertising and PR, or Marketing. If I get good grades, would the school choice be a problem?

I would be getting about half tuition: brand new dorms

MPC, GVSU is a fine school, but given your stats, you should have a shot at schools that are, no offense intended, in an altogether different league; like Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame. That is not to say you will get in, but if you do, attedning those schools could provide you with a more rewarding undergraduate education and most likely,

I appreciate that you like the squeaky clean dorms and the $5,000/year savings that attending GVSU offers, but unless you intend to stay in Grand Rapids or the Kalamazoo/Portage area, attending GVSU would probably not be your best option.

Yea, U have a shot at way better schools and if money is a problem, u even have a shot for scholarships at those schools. GVSU is a good regional school but has little recognition around the U.S. However GVSU is known to give a ton of money to talented students giving them full rides out like candy. This might attract u to the school as u would probably go for free.

what other schools should I look at?

money could be a problem since I have a twin sister that will be going through school at the same time.

A bio/chem teacher at my school went there, lol. haha, that's all i have to contribute to this discussion. :(
o well.

MPC, I would suggest applying to Michigan State university and University of Michigan. U would be in state and thus tuition should be somewhat the same as GVSU. Also at MSUu should definately get a scholarship. MSU and UM are both nationally ranked school. UM being the best.
Another school id apply to is The Ohio State University and Purdue. They give lots of money as well.

alright, My cousin went to the University of Toledo and loved it. What is it like there? What is the campus like? It is about an hour away. Is it worth checking out?

If its so close to u then I guess its worth checking out but Toledo is actually not even as good as GVSU. Its not a nationally ranked school. Nor is GVSU but GVSU is better. I think with ur profile, u should apply to top schools. apply to the best state school in ur state. If its michigan apply to MSU and UM. if its Ohio then apply just to Ohio State. you should get into one of them with a scholarship. Then for private schools, apply to top private schools. u should get in but see if u get scholarship money. U do have a shot for good schollys
