Grants

Do I start applying for grants after I receive my admissions letter or do I start contacting schools for grant information now??

Are you talking about need based financial aid grants? If so…you should have completed the FAFSA and if required…the Profile. Most schools award grants based on financial need. Some schools award grants based on a combination of financial need and academic merit.

What exactly do you mean???

I was wondering if there were additional grants that you have to apply for separately…I have already completed all of the financial requirements…

Thanks!

Any grant through the school would be apportioned during the financial aid process.
What you can do is look for scholarships outside of the school. Check fastweb.com for examples.

All grants, whether Federal, State or Institutional are all factored into the FinAid package by the College that admits you.

On the college’s website it should say if they require separate applications for any of their scholarships. My D has filled out applications for a few scholarships that did require a separate application. However, most of the colleges she applied to did not require separate applications for scholarships.

This may have already been mentioned but your school’s counseling office may have a list of outside (not college-based) scholarships you can apply to. So I would check with them also. if you are a senior many of the deadlines have already passed. But you may be able to find a few still taking applications.

Thanks everyone! I have done some scholarships already and am trying hard to do as many as possible!
